Vinny Crotta
As a child, Vinny’s mom would take him to the side of the roads to pick dandelion greens and mulberries but, it wasn’t until much later that he began seriously foraging. A number of years ago, he had decided to learn to make his own medicine from the plants of the forests, fields, and seaside. Vinny had always dreamed of working with plants and, after college he decided to make this dream a reality. He joined a local foraging group to help him get started and began doing extensive research to see what he could learn. What he found was that he lived in one of the most incredible biomes in the world and that there are a plethora of fungi and plants that not only offered opportunities for medicine making, but also for new culinary delights.
Learning to forage had brought Vinny closer to his local community than he ever would have thought. It has helped him reconnect with his grandma, who used to live in rural Italy and where she and her family would forage for herbs and mushrooms. It has changed his life truly for the better, and the happiness and fulfillment that it brings is one of his favorite things to share with people.
